A total of 64,850 suspects have been arrested over a two-month period starting from December 17 of last year as part of the ongoing anti-drug operation 'Yukthiya' conducted across the island.
The Ministry of Public Security said that out of this total, 56,140 individuals were detained in connection with drug-related offenses, while 8,710 were arrested for various criminal activities.
Within the 56,140 suspects arrested for drug offenses, 1,850 individuals are currently under further investigation under detention orders, with an additional 2,009 drug addicts referred for rehabilitation.
The Ministry reported that investigations into the ownership of illicit assets have commenced for 234 of the apprehended suspects, while 3,202 individuals listed by the Police Narcotics Bureau and Police Special Bureau were also detained.
During this period, authorities confiscated narcotics including 144.414 kg of heroin, 210 kg of ICE, 7.241 kg of Hashish, 2,753 kg of Cannabis, 36.840 kg of Ash, 4,691,848 cannabis plants, 174.452 kg of Mawa, and 368,474 narcotic pills.
The seized drugs have an estimated market value close to Rs. 7,852 million, while the confiscated property is valued at nearly Rs. 726 million.
Among the 8,710 suspects arrested, there were 1,333 individuals with outstanding warrants related to drug offenses and 6,700 with warrants for non-drug-related offenses.
Law enforcement authorities identified and apprehended 393 suspects wanted for crimes through fingerprinting, in addition to the arrest of another 318 individuals wanted for criminal activities during the operations.
