The Thalaimannaram Police have launched an investigation after the body of a 10-year-old girl, who had been reported missing, was found half naked.
Police said the girl's grandmother lodged a complaint with the Thalaimannaram Police on Thursday night, reporting her granddaughter missing from their village.
The body of the missing girl was found by the police this morning in a land nearly 300 meters away from the girl's residence.
When the body was found, the girl was wearing a dress and her lower body was naked. The police suspect that the girl has been raped.
The Mannar Magistrate the Judicial Medical Officer of Mannar have also observed the body and body has been deposited in Mannar Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Police said investigations have focused on a suspicious person residing in the area, and the Thalaimannarama police are conducting further investigations.
