Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary, Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera, tendered an apology to the Muslim community in Sri Lanka yesterday (15), acknowledging any distress his controversial remarks about the Kuragala Temple may have caused during a media briefing held eight years ago.
Speaking before Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige, the Thera expressed his sincere apology for the remarks made during the press conference held on 31 March 2016. He further conveyed his willingness to express profound regret for his actions to the Muslim community in the country.
Following his statement, Judge Patabendige announced that the verdict in the case would be delivered on 28 March, marking the conclusion of the trial's testimony phase.
Representing the Gnanasara Thera, Attorneys Iresh Seneviratne and Sanjaya Ariyadasa were present during the proceedings.
The case against the BBS General Secretary, filed by the Attorney General, pertains to allegations of causing religious and racial disunity in Sri Lanka stemming from remarks made during a media briefing on 30 March 2016 regarding the Kuragala Temple.
