The police said that they are working to sign prisoner exchange agreements with several countries.
Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon said that persons wanted in Sri Lanka who are arrested abroad will be able to be brought to the island quickly by those agreements.
He said that such agreements have been signed with several countries and plans are being made to sign prisoner exchange agreements with several other countries as soon as possible.
The IGP said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating those activities.
Tennakoon said that 42 major traffickers involved in various crimes and drug trafficking in Sri Lanka are currently hiding in foreign countries.
According to the police, most of them are staying in Dubai.
It has been confirmed that more people are hiding in India and European countries as well.
