Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon said that 42 international red notices have been issued for criminals implicated in underworld and drug-related crimes who have fled the country.
He made these remarks during the inauguration of a new police post outside the Colombo National Hospital.
Tennakoon further said that the individuals targeted by these red notices will be extradited to Sri Lanka with the assistance of Interpol.
Highlighting recent successes, the Acting IGP noted that the key associate of notorious drug trafficker Kudu Salindu had been repatriated to Sri Lanka earlier that morning for interrogation regarding drug trafficking activities within the country.
Furthermore, Tennakoon mentioned that the police officer who aided underworld leader Nadun Chinthaka, also known as Harak Kata, in his thwarted escape from the Criminal Investigation Department would soon be returned to Sri Lanka.
Tennakoon reiterated the commitment to seek assistance from Interpol in this regard.
Additionally, he emphasized the continuation of Operation Yukthiya to combat criminal activities effectively.
