A petition filled to consider the violation of basic human rights regarding the gazette notification issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe naming a number of places in Colombo and its suburbs as high security zones after the 'Aragalaya' period of 2022, will be called to consider on October 22.
The Supreme Court fixed the date today (14).
The Supreme Court will hear a petition on October 22nd challenging the legality of high-security zones established in Colombo and its suburbs following the 2022 "Aragalaya" protests.
Social activist A.C. Azar filed the petition, arguing that the September 23, 2022 gazette notification issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Special Public Security Act violates fundamental human rights.
The petition filled by social activist A.C Azar was called before the three-member Supreme Court bench consisting Murdu Fernando, S. Thureiraja and Yasanta Kodagoda.
This petition has been filed requesting a ruling that the basic human rights of the people are being violated due to the gazette announcement issued by the President.
The Attorney General, the President's Secretary, the Defense Secretary, the Inspector General of Police and others have been named as respondents in the relevant petition.
