Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has announced that the government will step in to facilitate paddy purchases, aiming to address the concerns raised by farmers regarding the current pricing situation.
Expressing the gravity of the issue, Minister Amaraweera highlighted the necessity of consulting farmers' organizations before finalizing decisions. He emphasized the importance of commencing cultivation activities promptly, advocating for the completion of all agricultural tasks before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Acknowledging the pressing matter of paddy prices, the Minister disclosed plans for the purchasing process to be overseen by the Ministry of Finance. He outlined the provision of financial support through banking institutions, affirming the government's commitment to intervene in resolving the issue.
