The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kuliyapitiya Police Station, implicated in a sexual assault case involving a female police constable, surrendered to the Puttalam Magistrate's Court today.
Following the alleged incident, the Kuliyapitiya Division Senior Superintendent of Police initiated an investigation and subsequently referred the matter to the court.
Accompanied by legal representation, the OIC, an inspector, appeared before the Magistrate this afternoon. Bail was granted to the inspector upon submission of a Rs. 500,000 bond. Additionally, the Magistrate ordered him to report to the Kuliyapitiya SSP office on the last Sunday of each month until the case's next hearing scheduled for March 6th.
Police said that besides the ongoing legal proceedings, the inspector will also be subject to disciplinary action within the police force.
