In a landmark decision, the Cabinet has granted approval for the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) courses into the national education curriculum, marking a significant stride towards fostering technological literacy among students.
The endorsement follows deliberations during a Cabinet meeting convened last October, wherein it was unanimously agreed to integrate AI courses into the education system, aligning with recommendations put forth by a dedicated task force entrusted with formulating a national strategy for AI implementation.
As part of the strategic blueprint, a pioneering pilot project has been crafted to introduce AI courses across general education platforms. The pivotal decision to proceed with the pilot project was endorsed by the Cabinet, following a proposal tabled by the President, who also serves as the Minister of Technology, and the Minister of Education.
Key components of the approved pilot project include:
1. Revision of Syllabus: The pilot project entails a comprehensive revision of the international syllabus, currently overseen by the Microsoft Institute, to harmonize with recommendations outlined by the National Institute of Education.
2. Commencement at Grade 8: The initiative is slated to kick off with AI courses being introduced at the grade 8 level in schools equipped with the requisite human resources, thereby ensuring a broad-based integration into the educational framework.
3. Digital Transformation: Schools identified for participation in the pilot project will undergo a process of digitization facilitated by the resources and expertise provided by the Microsoft Institute, fostering an environment conducive to technological immersion.
4. Teacher Training: To bolster the efficacy of AI education delivery, Microsoft Institute will conduct specialized training sessions for 100 Information and Communication Technology subject teachers, empowering them to serve as trainers and mentors within the educational ecosystem.
