Former national cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya has heaped praise on opener Pathum Nissanka, who made history by becoming the first Sri Lankan cricketer to score a double century in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

Expressing his admiration for Nissanka's exceptional batting performance, Jayasuriya took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to extend his congratulations. "Congratulations to Pathum on a masterclass in batting. I am so privileged to witness it in person - pure bliss," Jayasuriya's tweet read.

Jayasuriya, who assumed the role of a consultant coach in December last year, was present at the Pallekele Stadium to witness Nissanka's remarkable feat. The young opener's innings not only secured a significant victory for the team but also surpassed Jayasuriya's 23-year-old record for the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan in ODI cricket.
