A police constable sustained injuries after a firearm, being cleaned by a Sergeant from Okkampitiya Police Station, accidentally discharged.
The injured constable was promptly admitted to Monaragala Hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred while the police sergeant was cleaning his T-56 firearm in the barracks, in preparation for the annual police inspection scheduled for today (09).
A police constable sleeping nearby was inadvertently shot in the hip area.
According to hospital sources, the constable's condition is stable and not critical.
