During a gathering of European, Indo-Pacific, and ASEAN ministers in Brussels, the foreign ministers of Indonesia and Sri Lanka called on the European Union (EU) to adopt a consistent approach towards the conflict in Gaza, similar to its stance on Ukraine.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi emphasized the importance of ASEAN and the EU adhering to international law principles in addressing conflicts. She urged the EU to extend this commitment to both Ukraine and Gaza, underlining the need for a uniform position.
Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister, Ali Sabry, echoed these sentiments, expressing concerns about perceived double standards in the treatment of conflicts in the Middle East. Sabry highlighted the ongoing debate regarding the Palestinian people's plight compared to the situation in Ukraine, emphasizing the significance of treating all human beings equally.
Sabry noted that younger European politicians recognize the importance of maintaining credibility by treating all conflicts with fairness, asserting that the credibility of the Western world is at stake in addressing global issues.
