The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has taken a decisive step to regulate the bread industry by issuing an Extraordinary Gazette that outlines specific standard weights for loaves of bread.
According to the Gazette, a full loaf of bread is expected to weigh 450g, allowing for a permissible deficiency of 13.5g. Similarly, half a loaf of bread should adhere to a standard weight of 225g, with a permissible deficiency of 9g.
The CAA emphasized that all types of bread, whether manufactured, packed, stored, offered for sale, displayed, or sold at retail or wholesale, must conform to the specified standard weights outlined in the extraordinary gazette.
In a move towards transparency and consumer awareness, the authority has mandated that all traders prominently display the weight of bread for sale.
