The Special Task Force of Police has made significant strides in the investigation into the tragic Beliatta shooting, where five people, including Ape Jana Bala Party leader Saman Perera, were killed. Recent developments indicate a breakthrough in apprehending those involved.
According to police, the suspected main shooter in the Beliatta incident is a former naval officer. Accordingly, his 39-year-old wife, who also served in the Navy, and his 72-year-old father have been arrested for their alleged involvement in aiding the shooting.
The arrests took place in Pathagama, Pallewela, where the suspects were found hiding. Police said they were in possession of 21 grams and 350 milligrams of heroin at the time of their arrest.
Further interrogation of the detainees unveiled crucial information regarding the whereabouts of the main shooter and two other gunmen involved in the Beliatta shooting.
Police said they have fled to Dubai following the incident, with their flight tickets reportedly arranged by an organized criminal figure known as 'Nipuna,' currently residing in Dubai.
Investigations have revealed that the instructions for the shooting were allegedly provided by Harendra Gunathilaka, also known as Harsha, an associate of underworld leader and drug trafficker Kosgoda Sujee, who is also believed to be in hiding in Dubai.
