CEAT Kelani Holdings, a prominent tire manufacturer in Sri Lanka, has announced the successful installation of a 2.4 Mega Watt rooftop solar plant, representing a significant investment of 475.97 million rupees.
The newly commissioned solar facility, spanning 295,200 square feet, is expected to fulfill 21 percent of the factory's electricity requirements.
Operational since December 2023, the solar power plant is set to play a pivotal role in reducing CEAT's reliance on conventional power sources and concurrently trimming the company's electricity expenses. Currently, electricity costs constitute around 13 percent of CEAT's overall production expenditure.
Ravi Dadlani, Managing Director of CEAT Kelani, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, stating, "As the manufacturer of nearly half of Sri Lanka’s requirements of pneumatic tyres, CEAT Kelani is a systemically-important contributor to the national economy. This investment in renewable energy is just one example of our focus on sustainability."
The solar power plant project was executed by Regen Renewables (Pvt) Ltd., representing SUNTECH, one of the world's largest solar panel manufacturers, and Siemens-KACO, a renowned inverter manufacturer, in Sri Lanka. Regen Renewables has played a significant role in the deployment of over 20MW of solar plants, accounting for approximately 10 percent of rooftop systems in the country, according to the company's statement.
