The Cinnamon Garden Police launched an investigation after a shooting incident was reported at a residence on Kinsey Road, Colombo 7 on Wednesday morning (3). Police said a gold shop owner and millionaire businessman was injured in the shooting and subsequently admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
Following a notification from the hospital, a team of officials from Police initiated investigations into the incident at the hospital. According to the police, the businessman, during questioning, disclosed that he has two pistols and a 12-bore foreign-made firearm and that he is possessing legal licenses for those firearms. The businessman claimed that the weapon accidentally discharged.
It was further revealed that the businessman sustained injuries to his forearm and elbow from a bullet fired during the incident.
He was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment. Further investigations are underway under the instructions of Cinnamon Garden Police OIC Aloka Bandara Senaratne.
