The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) announced that it has prepared a series of new guidelines for dealing with suspects in Police custody.
HRCSL Commissioner Attorney Nimal Punchihewa stated that the measure was taken after taking into consideration the recent increase in deaths of suspects while in Police custody.
More than 20 people have died in Police custody so far this year. Attorney Nimal Punchihewa also stated that the guidelines will be released on December 11th on Human Rights Day. HRCSL
