The expressways toll revenue surpassed Rs. 8.6 million  by 3 p.m today after tri-forces took charge at ticket counters in response to the strike initiated by the All-Island Expressway Workers’ Union.

The union's 24-hour token strike, sparked by concerns about highway privatization, led to tri-forces personnel managing ticket counters and ensuring security on the expressways.

Despite challenges like the union withholding ticket machines and cards, the Army, Air Force, and Navy, deployed on the Southern, Katunayake, and Central Expressways respectively, collected significant amounts—Rs. 1,635,940, Rs. 5,951,090, and Rs. 1,022,900.
