Trade Minister Nalin Fernando has announced that the Government will be taking control of imported sugar stocks that were brought in under the previous levy of 25 cents per kg.
These stocks will be sold through Lanka Sathosa, supermarkets, and cooperative outlets at a fixed price of Rs. 275 per kg within the next month.
The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure that consumers have access to sugar at an affordable price.
Minister Fernando stated this during a press conference held in Colombo.
The government will take over the sugar stocks and distribute them to Lanka Sathosa, supermarkets, and selected cooperatives for sale at the controlled price.
