In response to Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe's disclosure of confidential letters to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) dismissed claims that it forced the ICC to suspend the country from international cricket. The SLC called the allegations baseless, malicious, and without merit.
Rejecting the minister's revelations, SLC asserted its commitment to addressing and lifting the suspension imposed by the ICC. The cricket body criticized the minister's statements as tainted with malice, seemingly designed to influence the public and interfere with SLC affairs.
Expressing concern over the minister's lack of understanding of cricket intricacies, SLC highlighted the obligation of ICC directors, including the SLC president, to respect objectives outlined in the ICC's Memorandum of Association.
SLC clarified that actions taken were in the best interest of cricket administration in Sri Lanka, countering the minister's claims of corruption and malpractice based on a Special Audit report. The SLC emphasized that the audit report found no evidence of corrupt conduct, and the minister's repeated allegations appeared politically motivated.
Addressing the obligation to operate autonomously without government interference, SLC accused the minister of causing harm to the organization by contravening ICC principles.
While SLC focuses on resolving the suspension, it expressed concern over the minister's media manipulation and suggested an unbiased examination of facts. The cricket body remains committed to upholding cricket integrity in Sri Lanka and anticipates the truth prevailing in due course.
