The Western Province Crime (South) Division arrested a 27-year-old software engineer residing in Pannipitiya, allegedly involved in a widespread car and motorcycle theft racket across Colombo. The arrest took place during a raid in Wattala.
The suspect, whose identity is being withheld, is under investigation for theft incidents in various areas, including Mirihana, Maharagama, Thalangama, Piliyandala, Kahathuduwa, Welikada, Kaduwela, Malabe, Homagama, Kottawa, Athurugiriya, Kelaniya, Horana, Alubomulla, Dehiwala, and Kirulapana.
During the interrogation, it was revealed that the software engineer is also a suspect in several housebreaking and property theft cases. The Nugegoda and Maligakanda Magistrate's Court has issued five arrest warrants against him.
Police have recovered three stolen cars, five motorcycles, gold items, computer accessories, and a stock of ready-made clothes following the arrest.
