Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has strongly rejected recent allegations made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in parliament concerning the communication between SLC and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Opposition Leader Premadasa had disclosed yesterday that SLC president Shammi Silva sent a letter to the ICC, accusing the Sports Ministry of undue interference in its activities, asserting that this led to the ICC ban on Sri Lanka Cricket.
In response, SLC issued a statement, attributing the suspension to continuous interference by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, despite multiple warnings.
"This interference resulted in SLC's inability to adhere to article 2.4D, leading to a violation of the said article. It is evident that the suspension was not a consequence of misquoted or misunderstood communication by SLC, as claimed by the Leader of SJB in Parliament," stated the SLC.
The cricket board further emphasized that individuals unfamiliar with the intricacies of how sports associations affiliated with international bodies, such as the ICC, operate, should consider the facts diligently and intelligently before spreading baseless accusations and statements lacking merit. The SLC added, 'We sincerely request anyone critical of SLC to exercise due diligence in evaluating the situation."
