The World Bank presented a comprehensive analysis of the current structure of regional electricity markets, interconnectivity, and a detailed examination of the proposed Sri Lanka-India power interconnectivity to the Ministry of Power & Energy, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said.
"The Government has taken a policy decision to establish interconnectivity with India and other regional countries to enhance energy cooperation and meet the growing demands of our nations. Today's meeting with the World Bank team marks a crucial step in this direction,"Minister Wijesekara said.
During the presentation, the World Bank team discussed the feasibility study of the proposed Sri Lanka-India connectivity. The presentation covered the structural aspects, technical requirements, and various business models that could be adopted to facilitate seamless energy exchange between the two nations.
"We had a thorough discussion with the World Bank team on the intricacies of the proposed interconnectivity. The analysis presented will serve as a foundation for our future endeavors in establishing a robust and efficient energy network with India," Minister Wijesekara added.
The proposed interconnectivity aims to strengthen ties between Sri Lanka and India in the energy sector, fostering mutual benefits and sustainable development.
