President Ranil Wickremesinghe held a meeting with Jay Shah, the president of the Asian Cricket Council, to address the ongoing cricket crisis in Sri Lanka, according to Minister Kanchana Wijesekera.
Minister Wijesekera made this announcement in Parliament in response to claims made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who alleged that Jay Shah's father is closely associated with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Minister Wijesekera emphasized the importance of not politicizing the cricket crisis and using parliamentary privileges for personal gain. He highlighted the consequences of Sri Lanka's suspension from the International Cricket Council (ICC), stating that Sri Lankan cricketers will not be able to participate even in division 1 cricket.
Furthermore, Minister Harin Fernando expressed concern that the ICC suspension has led to difficulties in paying salaries to ground staff. He also mentioned that Sri Lanka will miss out on the opportunity to host the Under 19 World Cup in January next year due to the suspension.
