Three additional police officers from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) have been assigned to enhance the security of Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe in response to potential threats to the Minister's life, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.
The spokesperson said that a minister is typically entitled to seven MSD officers for security details. However, in response to a request, the Sports Minister has been provided with an additional three MSD officers, bringing the total to 10 police officers.
The Ministry of Public Security has granted approval for the additional security, he said.
Earlier, the Sports Minister claimed to have faced various threats following his recent exposure of corruption, fraud, and irregularities within Sri Lanka Cricket.
