Court of Appeal President Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, who was at the centre of the controversy surrounding the issuence of an interim order against Sri Lanka Cricket interim order today recused himself from hearing the case.
A motion application, filed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, urging the Court of Appeal to reconsider its earlier interim order against the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee, was taken for hearing today (14).
The Sports Minister has enlisted the services of private counsel to represent him. President's Counsel K. Kanag-Ishvaran, instructed by Senior Counsel G.G. Arulpragasam, is set to support the Minister's motion.
On November 7, the Court of Appeal issued an interim order suspending the operation of the gazette notification, issued by the Sports Minister, appointing an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket, until November 16.
This order was issued in response to a writ petition filed by SLC President Shammi Silva before a two-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, consisting of Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Wickum Kaluarachchi.
