In response to revelations of a clandestine consultancy offer from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Senior DIG Thennakoon vehemently denies acceptance and pledges immediate resignation if evidence of benefits surfaces.
According to leaked documents on social media, SLC proposed a secret advisory role to Thennakoon on August 7, 2021, including perks such as LKR 150,000, 200 liters of petrol, LKR 5000 for calls for each month, a laptop, and medical insurance for a two-year term.
Thennakoon, citing adherence to the constitution, rejected the offer, asserting continued cooperation with SLC on security matters. He challenges accusers, stating, "If anyone proves that I received anything from the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, I will resign immediately from my post and from the Police Department."
"When the SLC offered me the position, I informed the Ministry of Public Security and submitted a written report. At that time, Ministry Secretary Jagath Alwis, advised him not to accept the offer, predicting that it could become an issue for me in the future," he said.
Thennakoon said that aside from SLC, he collaborates with various institutions on security matters as the Senior DIG in the Western Province.
