Thirteen post offices in the Western Province-South, spanning Colombo and Kalutara, are set to operate 24 hours, introducing night services to accept fines linked to traffic offenses.
Indika Hapugoda, DIG Traffic Control and Road Safety, conveyed this initiative to Divisional Officers in Colombo (North, South, Central), Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia, Kalutara, Seethawakapura, Kelaniya, and Gampaha as part of a pilot project.
These specified post offices, including locations such as Slave Island, Havelock Town, Wellawatta, Borella, Kotahena, Battaramulla, Nugegoda, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Panadura, Kalutara, and Seethawakapura, have been earmarked to accept fines round the clock, including during the night.
The Department of Posts has collaborated with the police to implement this service.
The DIG has also instructed officers involved in traffic duties to communicate this initiative to drivers while handling cases related to traffic offenses.
