The main suspect accused of issuing death threats and attempting to extort Rs. 1.5 million from the former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Janaka Rathnayake, has been arrested.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) with 12 grams of the drug ice in his possession during the arrest.
The CCD initiated investigations into the alleged death threats and extortion following the directive of the Senior Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Western Province.
Earlier, Rathnayake filed a complaint with the Kirulapone Police Station, stating that he had received a threatening phone call from an individual who claimed to have a contract to assassinate him. The caller demanded Rs. 1.5 million to spare Rathnayake's life.
