The Border Surveillance Unit of the Department of Immigration and Emigration at Katunayaka Bandaranaike International Airport arrested a 53-year-old woman from Puttalam and her 23-year-old relative from Marawila in Chilaw.
They were attempting to migrate to Italy through Muscat using forged passports and VISAs.
Investigations have revealed that they sold a property and paid Rs. 8 million to a racketeer in exchange for the counterfeit passport and VISA documents.
Subsequently, they were handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further proceedings.
