The body of businessman Dinesh Shafter, which had been placed under police protection for six months at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, was received by his relatives today.

The transfer of his remains followed an order issued by the Colombo Additional Magistrate's Court to release his body to his family.

Dinesh Shafter's body, previously burried at the Borella cemetery, was exhumed on May 25 at the behest of the court, which had directed a five-member expert forensic panel to conduct a post-mortem examination in the presence of the forensic medical committee. This examination aimed to determine the precise cause of his death.

The expert forensic medical committee recently submitted its report to the court, concluding that Dinesh Shafter's death was a result of foul play.

Consequently, Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department to initiate further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death and apprehend any suspects involved.
