Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially conveyed to the Sri Lankan mission in Israel that Sujith Bandara Yatwara, who went missing during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, is believed to be among the hostages being held by Hamas.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry and the Yatwara family have also been apprised of this development.
However, the Israeli police are currently engaged in verifying a potential match between the DNA samples provided by Bandara Yatawara's children and the unidentified bodies.
Previously, the number of missing individuals was reported as 222, but the latest data, released yesterday, has revised this number to 239.
In light of these developments, the embassy is actively collaborating with various sectors of the Israeli government to secure the rescue of Bandara Yatawara.
