In response to the difficulties faced by the public, the Cabinet has approved a revision of the electricity tariff every three months instead of the previously decided six-month period.
Under the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 20 of 2009, the Minister in charge of electricity has the authority to establish a general policy guideline for electricity supply, subject to Cabinet approval.
The joint Cabinet proposal, presented by the President in his role as the Finance Minister, Economic Stabilization, and National Policies, along with the Minister of Electricity and Power, aims to enhance power dispatch audits conducted by the Ceylon Electricity Board.
It also seeks to strengthen hydroelectricity forecasts with the assistance of the Department of Meteorology. These initiatives will enable the revision of the existing general policy guidelines that have already been implemented.
