Sri Lanka Police have initiated a series of measures aimed at systematically controlling and ultimately eradicating the operations of organized crime syndicates in the country within the coming six months.
During an event held in Colombo, Western Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon highlighted that the majority of organized crime activities are orchestrated by criminals residing abroad. He firmly asserted that the Sri Lankan police are determined to root out these criminal networks.
SDIG Tennakoon also expressed concern about the heightened visibility of such activities, particularly in the Southern and Western Provinces, with frequent reports of shootings and other violent incidents.
"Most of these activities are masterminded by criminals living overseas. As a result, we have now put in place a comprehensive strategy to methodically control and eliminate these organized criminal networks within the next six months," declared the SDIG.
He called upon the public to assist the police by reporting any individuals attempting to threaten or extort money from them and encouraged them to provide information about such illicit activities.
