1The Turkish Airlines commenced direct flights from Istanbul, Turkey, to Colombo, Sri Lanka, today, marking a significant milestone after 10 years of operations in Sri Lanka, with a brief stopover in Male. The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited announced the commencement of these flights, which will now operate four times a week.
The introduction of direct flights will not only enhance travel convenience but also reduce flight times, connecting Sri Lanka with Europe and the Americas more efficiently. Passengers will also benefit from shorter connection times at the impressive Istanbul Airport.
The inaugural direct flight, TK 730, arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 5:41 a.m. with 261 passengers on board. To commemorate this momentous occasion, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL) organized a soft launch event at BIA. The event was graced by the presence of key officials representing the aviation industry. During his address at the event, Major Gen (Rtd.) G.A. Chandrasiri, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited, shared his thoughts and insights.
