The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer AKEBONO (DD 108) made an official visit to Trincomalee harbor today, marking a significant naval exchange between the two nations.
Upon her arrival, the Sri Lanka Navy extended a warm welcome to the 150.5-meter-long destroyer, adhering to naval customs and traditions. The vessel is operated by a crew of 172 and is under the command of Commander Hisato SOTOKAWA. Commander SOTOKAWA is also expected to meet with Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva at the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters.
During the destroyer's stay, the crew will engage in various programs organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, aimed at strengthening cooperation and fostering goodwill between the two navies. They will also have the opportunity to explore the local sights and attractions.
The AKEBONO is scheduled to depart from the island on October 31, and as part of its departure activities, it will participate in a PHOTOEX (Photographic Exercise) with a Sri Lanka Naval Ship off the coast of Trincomalee. This visit enhances the maritime ties and collaboration between Japan and Sri Lanka.
