A Chinese woman, prohibited from leaving China, was apprehended by Immigration and Emigration officials upon her arrival at Katunayake International Airport on Thursday night (26).

Officers from the Border Surveillance Unit inspected her passport and discovered that she was in possession of a passport declared as lost or stolen by the International Police.

Further investigations revealed that the legitimate owner of the passport was another Chinese woman who had lost it during her visit to Sri Lanka in 2017. She had then obtained a new passport from Sri Lanka and departed the country.

Upon checking the detained woman's handbag, her genuine passport was found, and it was confirmed that she had been prohibited from leaving China.

As a result, she was deported and handed over to the airline that had brought her to Sri Lanka.
