The Colombo Magistrate's Court has issued an order for the release of former state minister Vijayakala Maheswaran, who had previously been granted bail based on the advice of the Attorney General.

This decision was made during the hearing of the case before Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.

Former state minister Vijayakala Maheswaran had been granted bail earlier in connection with an incident in which she allegedly made a statement in 2018 suggesting the re-establishment of the LTTE.

The police had previously informed the court that the Attorney General had advised that there were insufficient grounds to proceed with the case against this particular suspect.
