The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court that it will not proceed with any further actions concerning the discovery of Rs. 17.85 million in cash found in former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's official room at the President's House in Colombo.

CIABOC attributed this decision to the lack of evidence and confirmed that no measures would be taken in this matter.

The cash was discovered by protesters on July 9, 2022, when they entered the official presidential residence during widespread anti-government demonstrations. Subsequently, the protesters handed over the money to the Fort Police, who later transferred it to the Fort Magistrate's Court three weeks later.

Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, however, directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct an investigation into the delay in handing over the money by the police.

Magistrate Gamage expressed reasonable doubt regarding the delay and the actions of the Fort Police OIC.
