A special search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach area of Urumalei, Talaimannar today resulted in the discovery of over 4 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine (ICE), approximately 1 kg of heroin, and more than 5 kg of hashish concealed in a dinghy.

Navy said that SLNS Thammanna in the North Central Naval Command conducted a search operation in the Urumalei beach area in the early hours today. During the operation, a suspicious dinghy was examined, leading to the discovery of four packages of Crystal Methamphetamine weighing about 4.194 kg, a parcel of heroin weighing around 1.034 kg, and five packages of hashish weighing about 5.254 kg. Consequently, the consignment of narcotic substances and the dinghy were taken into naval custody.

Moreover, the total street value of the seized narcotic drugs is estimated to be over Rs. 94 million.

The cache of drugs and the dinghy apprehended by the Navy in this operation were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau, Talaimannar, for further legal action.
