Tragedy struck as adverse weather conditions claimed the lives of two individuals and left nearly 9,000 people affected across multiple districts.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) released a situation report detailing the extent of the damage caused by the inclement weather. According to the report, a total of 8,974 individuals from 2,373 families have been affected in six districts.
These districts include Ratnapura, Badulla, Gampaha, Matara, Galle, and Kandy. The impact of the severe weather has been devastating, with two individuals losing their lives as a result. The DMC did not provide any further details regarding the victims.
In addition to the human toll, the report also highlighted the damage to infrastructure. Flash floods and strong winds have resulted in the partial destruction of 1,152 houses.
The situation remains precarious as heavy showers, expected to exceed 70 mm, are predicted in certain areas of the Uva, Eastern, Northern, and North-Central Provinces.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety amidst these challenging weather conditions.
