JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has filed lawsuits in the Colombo District Court, seeking Rs. 20 billion in damages from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, Parliamentarian Tissa Kuttiarachchi, and Power House Limited for allegedly making defamatory statements and publishing.

During a public meeting held in Colombo on August 19, SLPP General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam and MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi allegedly made remarks against the National People's Power (NPP) regarding its alleged investments in Malta.

Anura Kumara Dissanayaka alleged that the defamatory and baseless allegations made by Sagara Kariyawasam and Tissa Kuttiarachchi were telecasted on Ada Derana's prime-time news bulletin on August 19, without verifying the accuracy of the statements.

The JVP leader claimed that the defendants had the intention to defame him when making these defamatory statements and subsequently publishing them in the media.

Furthermore, he stated that the statements made by the two Parliamentarians were unfounded, absolutely false, baseless, malicious, and inherently defamatory. He added that these statements were made with the intention of tarnishing his reputation.

Dissanayake emphasized that as a result of these defamatory statements and news publications, he suffered severe harm and damage to his good name and reputation. He also asserted that he had been subjected to public contempt, ridicule, humiliation, and hatred.
