A 16-year-old schoolboy in Ullandupitiya, Aladeniiya, suffered serious injuries when he kicked an unidentified object resembling a golf ball on a road, causing it to explode.
He was promptly admitted to Kandy National Hospital, where he underwent urgent surgery. Hospital authorities confirmed severe lower limb injuries.
During the investigation, the object was identified as an illegal improvised explosive device known as "Hakka Patas," commonly used by poachers to hunt wild animals.
The police, suspecting foul play, conducted a search of a nearby residence, uncovering nine additional "Hakka Patas" devices.
Police arrested two individuals, one of whom was an army deserter. The suspects were allegedly involved in producing these illicit explosive devices to hunt wild boar.
