According to provisional data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the number of tourists arriving in Sri Lanka during the first week of October exceeded 25,000.
Between October 1 and 8, Sri Lanka received a total of 26,272 international visitors, bringing the cumulative arrivals from January 1 to October 8 to 1,042,528.
The tourism authorities had set a target of 147,789 arrivals for the month of October, and as of October 8, they had achieved 17.7 percent of that target.
The daily average for tourist arrivals in the first week of October was 3,284.
In its weekly tourist arrival report, the SLTDA expressed confidence in reaching the year's target of 1.55 million arrivals, with an expected fourth-quarter arrival figure of 533,744.
India remained the largest source of tourists, accounting for 24 percent of total arrivals, with 6,293 visitors. The Russian Federation ranked second at 9 percent with 2,352 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom at 7 percent with 1,904 international visitors.
Other significant markets included China, Germany, Australia, the Maldives, the United States, Spain, and the Netherlands.
