President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has approved the promotion of a total of 314 Officers and 1565 Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Army (Regular and Volunteer Force) on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defence and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage. This promotion comes in commemoration of the 74th Army Anniversary Day.
In the Officers' category, the promotions are as follows:
- 07 Brigadiers have been promoted to the rank of Major General.
- 12 Colonels have been promoted to the rank of Brigadier.
- 37 Lieutenant Colonels have been promoted to the rank of Colonel.
- 41 Majors have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
- 50 Captains, including Quarter Masters, have been promoted to the rank of Major.
- 84 Lieutenants, including Quarter Masters, have been promoted to the rank of Captain.
- 83 Second Lieutenants (Regular Force & Volunteer Force) have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
In the category of Other Ranks, the promotions are as follows:
- 83 Warrant Officers-II have been promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer-I.
- 183 Staff Sergeants have been promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer-II.
- 263 Sergeants have been promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
- 414 Corporals have been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
- 374 Lance Corporals have been promoted to the rank of Corporal.
- 248 Privates (Regular Force and Volunteer Force) have been promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Additionally, seven Senior Brigadiers have been elevated to the two-star Major General rank in the Army. Their names are Major General D.A Amarasekara, Major General R Elvitigala, Major General I.H.M.R.K Herath, Major General W.M.P.M Wijesooriya, Major General W.P Kariyawasam, Major General K.M.P.S.B Kulatunga, and Major General H.H.K.S.S Hewage.
