In a tragic incident, two constables from the Special Task Force of Police (STF) lost their lives, while five other officers sustained injuries when their Defender jeep collided with a cow and crashed into a wall in Vavuniya.
The incident occurred last night as the Defender, carrying seven officers from the Vavuniya Madukanda Special Task Force Camp, was en route from the camp to Vavuniya City. The accident took place on Horowpathana Road, near the 2nd post of Ramba Kulam.
Two constables, aged 29 and 31, hailing from Kurunegala and Medawachchiya, tragically lost their lives while being admitted to Vavuniya Hospital.
The police constable who was driving the Defender jeep, a sub-inspector, two police sergeants, and a police constable, all injured in the collision, are currently receiving medical treatment at Vavuniya Hospital.
The Vavuniya Police has initiated further investigations into the incident.
