A former Inspector of Police was killed, while his brother sustained injuries in a shooting incident in Rathgama today.
Police said the 40-year-old former police inspector succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
It has come to light that the deceased had spent a year and a half in remand custody for an alleged offense committed during his tenure as an officer. He had been released on bail just a few days ago.
The tragic incident occurred when the former police inspector was returning home from the Balapitiya court and was shot by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle near his residence.
The Rathgama Police is currently conducting an investigation into this matter.
