The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) has announced that all private buses will no longer be required to undergo emission testing starting from January next year.
The decision was made due to the absence of a practical program for emission testing, according to LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne. The association will be informing the transport authorities in writing about this decision within the week.
Wijeratne also highlighted concerns about the quality of fuel provided for buses, stating that there is a serious crisis regarding the quality of diesel.
He further pointed out that emission tests are not being conducted for buses under the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) or other government vehicles. Emphasizing that private buses offer the same service as SLTB buses at the same fare, Wijeratne stated that the law should not be applied differently to different entities.
LPBOA intends to submit a written notification to the Ministry of Transport next week, informing them of their decision to refrain from emission testing for their buses starting in January.
