The Prime Minister mentioned this at a special health clinic camp held in Kelaniya on 08.10.2023 on the occasion of National Retirement Day.
For today's National Retirement Day, this health camp was held at Vedamulla Retirement Resort, Kelaniya, under the leadership of the National Pension Department, Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
"The government spends more than 418 billion rupees per year for the social and economic welfare of more than six hundred and ninety five thousand retired people, which is between 10% and 12% of the government's expenditure. The Prime Minister said that the government will continue to intervene to ensure the security of the retired people even in this crisis. It was mentioned here.
The Prime Minister also stated that it is his expectation to see the retirees in full retirement and using their knowledge and experience to engage in services for the next generation of the country throughout their lives.
State Minister Sisira Jayakodi, Member of Parliament Yadamini Gunawardena, State Administration Ministry Secretary Ranjith Ashoka, Colombo District Secretary Pradeep Yasaratne, Pension Director General Jagath Dias, various institutions and many pensioners joined this event.
