The Elpitiya police arrested two individuals, one an active-duty soldier and the other a former soldier, last night for waiting to carry out a shooting incident in Elpitiya.
They were found in possession of a pistol and 10 rounds of 10mm ammunition at the time of their arrest.
The arrested individuals, aged 22 and 31, are residents of the Meetiyagoda area. The investigation has revealed that one of them is currently serving in the army, while the other is a former army soldier.
The police operation was launched based on information provided by the Elpitiya headquarters police, indicating that the suspects had arrived at Samagi Mawatha in Elpitiya with the alleged intention of taking someone's life.
Further investigations into the matter have unveiled that these soldiers had previously attempted to commit a murder using a similar modus operandi at another location, but their attempt was unsuccessful.
Authorities have also disclosed that the shooting plot was orchestrated by an overseas-based underworld gangster.
